This approach is valid for making any liposome. Read up on liposomes. They are really interesting! Liposomal vitamin C is particularly interesting! This Vitamin C Ascorbate recipe is a compilation of several approaches. I have simplified it for my purposes.
Liposomal Vitamin C
If you are allergic to concentrated vitamin C ( some people are), don’t use this mixture!
A Blender and a 2 (or more) liter Ultrasonic cleaner will be required for this process.
- Pour 5 cups of distilled water into a large blender. Note that you may need to split the batch for everything to fit. Add 1 cup of granular (powdered) organic soy lecithin gently packed into your blender cup and blend for about 2 minutes. Pour this mixture into a clean glass container and temporarily set it aside. You can tweak the amount some if needed.
- Put 10 (Maximum) level Tablespoons of Pharmaceutical grade Vitamin C powder and 2 cups of distilled water into your blender. Don’t worry about cleaning out the remains of the lecithin. It’s one of the ingredients of your liposome anyway! Blend briefly.
- Pour the Lecithin solution into ultrasonic cleaner bowl with the Vitamin C mixture and stir the contents together.
- Turn the ultrasonic cleaner on and using a wood or plastic spoon gently stir the contents. If your cleaner has optional heat available, DO NOT use it.You will over heat the solution, and the liposomes will revert to their separate components. If this happens to you, the solution is probably not lost. Let the solution cool, and try again without heat.
Note: Some cleaners will automatically, self-stop after a few minutes. Just re-start to continue. You can run your cleaner for up to 1/2 hour for a good mixture. By that time the entire solution should be blended into a mixture that looks a lot like no-pulp orange juice. Never go over half an hour with the cleaner running. Some units will get hot as a part of normal operation even without added heat if you run them longer than this.
To make the mixture more palatable, add 1 level TSP or less (sweeten to taste) of powdered stevia and approximately 1 tsp of your favorite citrus extract. Do this AFTER you have run the ultrasonic cleaner, so the stevia and flavoring do not become encapsulated with the vitamin C. The resultant solution will still be somewhat sour.
Note that I don’t add stevia or flavoring any more, because I have found that the sour taste of the mixture essentially disappears when added to a smoothie.
Dosage per day? Consult your nutritionist and / or physician. If you are allergic to concentrated vitamin C ( some people are), don’t use this mixture. I take up to six 1/2 ounce doses per day if I’m ill, one dose per day if all is well.
This solution will keep, acceptably, at room temperature for 3 to 5 days. Refrigerated, it will keep much longer.
If the solution separates more than a little bit (you may see a brown layer at the bottom of the container after a while, it means the solution needs a bit more water. Pour the liquid back into your cleaner and add no more than one cup of water. Note that a little separation is normal.
Therefore Shake before use!
